Not only are these donuts packed with rich, chocolatey deliciousness, they’re so good that you’ll feel like you’re eating the most decadent dessert. The beauty of protein donuts are that they’re a healthier version of traditional donuts. Instead of all purpose flour, you can use ingredients higher in protein, like different flavored protein powder, Greek yogurt, or nut butters. These chocolate protein donuts are sure to be your new go-to healthy snack.
Ingredients:
For The Donuts:
- ½ cup oat flour (blend quick oats in food processor)
- 2 scoops chocolate protein powder of your choice
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup organic apple sauce
- 2 tbsp. coconut oil (melted)
- 1/3 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
For The Glaze:
- 2-3 scoops vanilla protein powder of your choice
- 2 tbsp. vanilla almond milk
Directions:
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 325°F. Then, spray a donut baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. You can also use silicone donut molds too, if you prefer.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to make the donut batter. Grab a large bowl and add all of the donut ingredients, mixing thoroughly until fully combined. Then, scoop the batter into the hollows of your donut baking pan. Place the pan in the oven, baking for about 8-10 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and let the donuts cool completely before moving onto step 4.
Step 3
Meanwhile, you can work on the glaze. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the almond milk and vanilla protein powder and stir thoroughly. If you want a thinner consistency, slowly add a bit more almond milk, one tablespoon at a time. On the other hand, add extra protein powder to the glaze mixture for a thicker consistency.
Step 4
Once the donuts have cooled, dip each donut into the glaze until evenly coated on both sides. In case it’s a bit messier than you’d like, use a fork to help flip the donut over. Afterward, place the donuts on a wire baking rack so the glaze can set. If you want, add sprinkles or other toppings to create your very own chocolate protein donuts!
