After your initial evaluation, the physical therapist will create a specialized exercise program as part of your Plan Of Care. These exercises are movements designed to safely strengthen the targeted muscles without the risk of further exacerbating your injury.
During the first few weeks, the physical therapist will advise you to only do the exercises included in your specialized exercise program. Refraining from any other type of exercise will help the therapist properly track your condition and the effectiveness of the exercises. It will also allow them to better identify potential sources that may be causing pain or preventing your progression.
As you advance throughout your Plan Of Care, the physical therapist will begin to introduce new exercises to add to your exercise regime. They will advise you to return to some of your regular exercises when they know the movements are safe to be performed and won’t cause your condition or injury to worsen.
