FAQ: How Long Will Each Session Last?

During your initial evaluation, the physical therapist will take measurements, do diagnostic testing and obtain other clinical information pertinent to your pain or condition. Based on this information, the therapist will create a specialized Plan Of Care that will be most beneficial for your recovery.

The therapist will also set various goals to achieve throughout your Plan Of Care, as well as provide a specialized home exercise program for you to perform daily. You can expect your initial evaluation to take 30 to 45 minutes.

Typically, follow-up appointments can last anywhere between 45 to 60 minutes each session. The physical therapist will perform various procedures, such as manual therapy and neuromuscular reeducation, assist in therapeutic exercises and utilize massage therapy techniques.

Some sessions may last longer than others, however. If you re-exacerbate your injury, or even sustain a new injury, the therapist may spend extra time trying to calm and alleviate the pain. Likewise, the therapist may spend additional time introducing new strengthening exercises as you advance throughout your Plan Of Care.
