Can Physical Therapy Help Back Pain?
Back pain is an extremely serious problem. It can significantly affect your mobility and limit your function. Physical therapy is a proven and effective way to control back pain, as well as help prevent it from occurring in the future.
When you come to Borja PT, you’ll know you’re getting the best care. Believe it or not, when doctors need a physical therapist, they come here. Not to mention, they send their closest friends & family as well. For that reason, we pride ourselves on caring for the people you love most.
We specialize in back pain because we’ve experienced it ourselves. In fact, the owner of Borja Physical Therapy, Dr. Alex Borja, knows exactly what it’s like to have severe back pain. During his undergraduate study, Dr. Alex suffered an injury while working out that left him debilitated.
He was unable to go to class or even get up from bed most days. It was at this time that he decided he needed to find a safe, effective way to not only get out of pain. More importantly, he needed to get back to daily living again. He studied various techniques from Europe and, after months of hard work, was able to successfully treat his back condition.
Since that time, Dr. Alex has dedicated his life to helping others with their back pain. He has created a specialized program to manage back pain. He focuses on strengthening targeted muscle groups that are responsible for stabilizing the spinal column and pelvis.
After your initial evaluation, the physical therapist will create a home exercise program for you. These exercises are designed to safely strengthen your muscles. All without the risk of making your injury worse. As you advance throughout your Plan Of Care, the therapist will add to your home exercise program.
What Is A Home Exercise Program?
The primary goal of the home exercise program is to aid your recovery by strengthening specific muscles in a specific order. These exercises should be done on days when you have physical therapy appointments. More importantly, you should do them on the days that you do not have therapy. These exercises play a large role in the progression of recovery from back pain.
Doing your exercises on the days that you don’t have therapy will help you recover quicker. Far beyond just physical therapy alone. They act as a one-two punch in your recovery, so to speak. In fact, you should do your home exercise program even after you’re done with physical therapy. It’s important to prioritize these exercises at least 3 times a week. This will prevent your injury or condition from coming back as a result.
