Easy Mongolian Beef Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1- inch ginger, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, chopped
  • ยผ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • ยผ cup water
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

Step 1

First, grab a sharp knife and cut the steak into thin slices, going against the grain. Then, sprinkle each piece with cornstarch, making sure it’s evenly coated.

Step 2

Now, grab a large skillet and heat the canola oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is finally hot, carefully lay the steak in the pan. In order to cook properly, make sure none of the pieces are overlapping. Depending on the size of your steak, cook for about 2 minutes per side, until each side is browned. After that, remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

Next, add both the yellow and green onions, garlic, and ginger to the skillet. Cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onions still have a slight crunch. Then, add in the water, soy sauce, brown sugar, and hoisin sauce and stir. Lastly, add the steak pieces back into the pan. Mix until everything is fully combined. Remove from the heat and serve with your favorite noodles or rice.
