When you need dinner on the table fast, this turkey taco skillet has your back. It comes together in just 20 minutes, uses simple ingredients, and is loaded with all those delicious taco flavors you love.

You’ve got seasoned ground turkey, tender bell peppers, black beans, salsa, and plenty of melty cheese, all finished with creamy avocado, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Grab some tortilla chips for scooping, and you’ve got an easy weeknight dinner that everyone can dig into.

20 Minute Turkey Taco Skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar salsa
  • 1 cup black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1 lime
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Directions

Step 1: Cook the Bell Pepper

First, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the skillet is hot, add the olive oil, diced bell pepper, and a small pinch of salt. Then, cook the pepper for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to soften. It doesn’t need to be completely tender yet because it’ll continue cooking with the rest of the ingredients.

Step 2: Brown the Turkey

After that, add the ground turkey to the skillet along with the salt, garlic powder, and cumin. While the turkey cooks, use a spoon or spatula to break it into smaller pieces. Keep cooking the turkey for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reaches full doneness and pink fades.

Step 3: Stir in the Salsa and Black Beans

Once the turkey is cooked, it’s time to add the salsa and black beans. Stir everything together until well combined, then let the mixture cook for another couple of minutes. This gives the beans a chance to warm through and lets all those flavors come together.

Step 4: Melt the Cheese

Now that everything is hot and flavorful, sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top. Then, place the skillet under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts, bubbles, and develops those golden spots. Be sure to keep a close eye on it while it’s under the broiler. The cheese can go from perfectly melted to overly browned pretty quickly!

Step 5: Add the Fresh Toppings

After the cheese is melted, carefully remove the skillet from the oven. Then, top everything with sliced avocado and fresh cilantro. Finally, give the whole skillet a generous squeeze of fresh lime juice.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Last but not least, bring your turkey taco skillet straight to the table and serve it with plenty of crunchy tortilla chips for scooping.

And that’s it! In about 20 minutes, you’ve got a hot, cheesy, flavorful taco dinner that’s perfect for busy nights when you want something delicious without spending your whole evening in the kitchen.
